This time we went to shoot at Moscow’s ultimate tourist attraction – the Red Square. You can read all about it on Wikipedia, so I won’t bother you with copied info. I’ll tell one story though. Do you know what this outstanding edifice on the above photo is? It’s official name is the Cathedral of the Protection of Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat, but it is better known as St. Basil’s Cathedral. It is definitely one of the most stunning Russian buildings, with its unique bonfire shape and vivid coloring. Common sense suggests there should be an outrageous story behind such beauty.
And there sure is. This church was build during the reign of Ivan IV aka Ivan the Terrible, who did lots of crazy stuff and produced even more legends. One of these held that the tsar blinded the two talented architects so that the one-of-a-kind cathedral wouldn’t ever be recreated. This story was imprinted in my memory since early childhood and even though experts say it’s just a myth I can’t help but think about it anytime I pass by this masterpiece.
I wore ripped boyfriend jeans and my beloved white Nike Airmax that are now a wardrobe staple for me. Added a cropped shirt on top to soak up a bit of sun (using SPF, naturally). A lot more photos after the jump!
That’s the Bolshoi theatre behind me, in case you were wondering.
St. Basil’s Cathedral looked great on that sunny day.
Matrioshka party. Rumor has it these originated in Japan. Oh well.
